  16. Courier 1/23/96 firmware Release Notes
  17.  
  18. This new firmware adds two new S registers, S69 and S70.  Also added is the 
  19. #CID setting.  Its important that after the new firmware is flashed, that 
  20. these settings be set to 0 and saved to NVRAM.  The USR.CFG file included 
  21. performs that operation.  This can also be done by sending the command 
  22. ATS69=0S70=0#CID=0&W to the modem.  If these S registers are left 
  23. uninitialized, it may cause the modem to work incorrectly.

  26. NEW FEATURES
  27.  
  28. The Courier new release addendum documents the following new features in 
  29. detail:

  32. 1.  Caller ID (CLID)
  33. --------------------
  34.  
  35. Caller ID is NOT supported on daughterboard Courier modems.  Only single board
  36. Courier modems support Caller ID.  Owners of daughterboard Couriers may
  37. have their modem modified with a hardware change to support caller ID for a 
  38. fee of $24.95.  Please call Customer Support on 1 800 550 7800 for details.

  40. Both Basic and Extended Caller ID are supported.  Basic Caller ID provides 
  41. the date and time of the caller and the calling party's telephone number.  
  42. Extended Caller ID provides the billing name associated with the calling 
  43. party's telephone number in addition to the Basic service information.

  45. Formatted and unformatted presentation formats are supported.  Formatted 
  46. output presents the Caller ID information as a list of fields and the 
  47. values received by the Courier.  Unformatted output presents the raw 
  48. Caller ID data as a string of hexadecimal characters.

  66. 2.  Distinctive Ring
  67. --------------------
  68.  
  69. Distinctive Ring is sometimes known as MultiRing or RingMaster.  It is a 
  70. service provided by the local telephone company that permits the assignment 
  71. of multiple telephone numbers to one line.  Each number is associated with a 
  72. different ringing pattern.
  73.  
  74. The Courier recognizes four ring patterns known as ring A through D.
  75.

  85. A setting of S70=0 disables distinctive ring.  The Courier will return a 
  86. result code of RING for either Ring type A or B.  Settings bits 0 through 3 
  87. will enable distinctive ring and the Courier will recognize the ring type 
  88. selected by the bits which are turned on.  The Courier will return a result 
  89. code of RING A, RING B, etc.

  99. 3.  Plug and Play
  100. -----------------
  101.  
  102. The Courier modem now supports Plug and Play as defined by the Microsoft
  103. Plug and Play Specification for External COM devices v1.00.  To disable Plug
  104. and Play for the external, set S69.0=1.  The default is S69.0=0 which enables
  105. Plug and Play for the external Courier modem.
  106.  
  107. A new Courier ISA bus modem will begin shipping in March 1996.  This new
  108. internal Courier (ISA bus) supports Plug and Play, but is shipped configured 
  109. for COM2: IRQ 3.  To configure the Courier ISA bus modem for Plug and Play, 
  110. set the COM jumpers to cover both positions on columns B and C.

  113. 4.  Carrier Loss Dialback
  114. -------------------------
  115.  
  116. The Courier can now re-establish lost connections automatically.  To enable
  117. this feature, set S44.1=1 (S44=2).  When a connection is lost and carrier is
  118. no longer present, the modem will wait the time specified by S44 (seconds)
  119. and then redial the previously dialed number.  The Courier will attempt to
  120. reconnect up to 10 times.

  123. FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
  124.  
  125. 1.  When the modem is configured to reset on DTR drop, it will now send a
  126.     V.42 DISC command to the remote modem before disconnecting and resetting.
  127.  
  128. 2.  ATI3 changed to output banner "USRobotics Courier V.Everything".  ATI3
  129.     can still be used to set the modem's clock in the same manner as previous
  130.     firmware.
  131.  
  132. 3.  Corrected intermittment failure to send TSI frame in Class 2.0 fax.
  133.  
  134. 4.  Corrected ability to use ";" to send multiple commands in fax mode.  ie.
  135.     AT+FCLASS=2.0;+FAA=1 now works.
  136.  
  137. 5.  Improved V.25bis to support ">" and ":" dial modifiers.
  138.  
  139. 6.  Added &ZC to AT&$ help screen.
